Florian Effenberger, Rory McDonald, Hubert Wiest, Nasser Ghanemzadeh join OSMPA

Day2 again brought us really interesting new members for our “Λ-Team”:

• Florian Effenberger, in his own words: My name is Florian Effenberger, and I’m Marketing Project Co-Lead for OpenOffice.org. One of my responsibilities is the contact to the press and organizing the OpenOffice.org booths at various trade shows. The idea of exchanging minds and thoughts with other people involved in the marketing of open source sounds interesting! Unfortunately, due to my busy schedule, I’m quite sure I can’t commit that much, but let’s see. :-)
• Rory McDonald, in his own words: I am, amongst many other things, News Editor at Linux User and a freelance Tech writer, but I also provide communications consultancy to a wide variety of different projects in the broad field of “disruptive technologies”
• Hubert Wiest, Director Marketing & Sales at Linux New Media AG - wrote us that he thinks OSMPA is a really great idea and he will try to find the time to get involved.
• Nasser Ghanemzadeh, in his own words: I live in Iran. I’ve a BS on Computer engineering, but my profession is “Business and Economics of software and web”. I’m a co-founder of Isfahan LUG (http://www.isfahanlug.org/wiki/index.php). I’m running a blog in Persian on which I write about business aspects of Softwares, Specially FOSS. (http://opatan.wordpress.com). I have had several seminars on the “FOSS Business”. I am going to found a Open Source Firm in near future.

Let’s see what Day3 will bring. If anyone out there has ideas who else we should immediately invite, pls simply write a comment and we’ll send him or her a personal invitation.

James Cherkoff, Zak Greant, Jeff Whatcott join OSMPA

Here are the good news: Three well known persons let us know they want to get involved with OSMPA. Here they are, alphabetically:

• James Cherkoff, Author of the “What is Open Source Marketing?” Manifesto and editor of the blog “modern marketing”, one of the best regarded strategic marketing blogs in Europe. He also contributes to the FT, BBC, Independent, Observer, Ad Age, Research Magazine, Media Week, Reuters, WebProNews, changethis.com, Business Week and the Guardian. Read his bio in his own words over here.
• Zak Greant, whos “love of free software has turned him into a penguin”. Does Zak really need more introduction? OK, here are some Search Keywords (random order) for you: LAMP, PHP, MySQL, Mozilla Foundation, OSI, eZ .. That should do.
• Jeff Whatcott, nowadays busy with introducing Acquia to the world. A longtime advocate of community, open standards, and open source development, James has nearly a decade of experience in successfully leading technical evangelism, standards relations, developer marketing, and product management organizations at Adobe, Macromedia, and Allaire Corporation. Read on in his “hello there” over here.

Starting the OSMPA Project

Hello World.

About 10 (or so) days ago I tried to find an association in which other open source marketers are organized, xchange ideas, meet and so on. I could not find one. I found a massive number of marketing associations, pr-associations with their code of conducts .. and an even larger bunch of conf’rences .. but NADA, NOTHING, NIENTE for OSMPs like me (I work at brox, a german software company being just in the process of going open source - which also explains my horrible english writing capabilities).

Some hours later I found myself talking to some friends and collegues about that. And we all liked the idea of founding such an association. As an Open Source Project, of course. Again some hours later there was a name (OSMPA), a connected Domain (osmpa.org) and a Goo***-Group.

Today (again some days later) five other guys (from Europe and the U.S.) and me talked a bit, discussed at the Group, wrote an Invitation to you, the world. And put the basic website and weblog (this one) live.

If you like the idea, too: Just imagine what could be done another few days, weeks, months later.
